So according to Vas, who remembers random trivia bits like this, this comic was actually the first one we came up with for Daily Quests back in August or something. Obviously it was after Blizzcon, and we were playing with our murloc marine pets. I had heard somewhere that if you put the Zergling Pet (which you could only get by purchasing a collectors edition of WoW when it first came out), the zergling will kill the marine. And sure enough, it does!
However, the marine can actually kill the zergling pet too! It depends on range! If the murloc is far enough away, he will shoot and kill the zergling at range, but if they are close together, the zergling will win more often than not! Vas and I have run through Dalaran trying to see who kills who first sometimes! In fact, we did last night in Heroics in honor of the comic!
This comic is kind of interesting in that its our 20th comic, which I think is pretty huge! So I made it pretty huge! I guess I’m starting a trend where every 10th comic is double sized or something. As I said before, its also the first comic we came up with back when Vas and I started this crazy journey, but its also the first comic where I used my Flash Builds for both characters. I gotta say, its incredible how much faster I can churn these things out. This whole comic took me about 7.5 hours from start to finish, but I had to draw the murloc and zergling, which took a lot of it, AND the comic is twice as large. It will be really cool if a regular sized one will only take me 3-4 hours to do! Of course, the next few comics we have planned have incidentals to draw! Figures.
Getting more excited/nervous for the Calgary Comic Expo! Check out the site for the guest line up, and if you in the area, they started selling advance tickets just the other day, so grab them early and save a few bucks! Both Vas and I will be there in the artists alley representing Daily Quests, come in and say hi!
EDIT: As per a few suggestions given to me through the comments, I’ve taken another stab at Fyreuni jumping at Vas in the 5th panel. I think it looks a lot better, and reads a little more clearly. I still feel its the weakest panel, but at least now it should be easier to interpret what shes doing! Thanks again for all the suggestions and critiques on it, they definitely improved the image!

Are those two now made in flash now? For drawing are you using a tablet or just a pen?
About the panels, those two pets are hilarious. I do not see that in Lagaran so often, but in the dungeon’s breaks some splash always happens.
The comic was always made in Flash, but I went ahead and built Vas and Fyreuni properly so that I could manipulate them better. Before I was redrawing every pose for every comic, and it took forever!
…And here I am! Also, I thought it was random who won during the marine murloc vs zergling.. But you definitely portrayed the fight well enough. And the panel is fine, we all know she’s attacking Vas and not uh.. Something else! XD

I love the comic, brilliant quality and funny as always.
But i can’t help but be bothered by the lower part of panel 5. It looks as though Fyre is stood on a chair, posing as you take the picture, but looking at the camera like some really bad actress :P
I dont know if it’s just a really hard angle or something to do with using flash models or whatever, the closest i’ve ever come to making computerised art is using Paint to draw little 2D images ^^.
Sorry to be so nit-picky, it’s 4am, i’m bored and for god-knows-what reason i’m on my PC O_o

naw, its definitly the weakest part of the comic. It was the only part I had trouble visualizing how to do that, if only for the fact that there isn’t a lot of space to show that shes jumping at him. I guess I should have put some speedlines or something…it was really hard to get to look right : / In the end I failed, and I know that!

I deffinately wouldn’t say you failed atall with this strip, it’s really good, best quality drawings i’ve seen on any web comic and it gives me a big smile every friday (well saturday morning in the UK).
Just think how much better it is than anything someone like, i dunno say..me, could do….damn theres no ‘infinite’ key on my keyboard. I’m great at drawing little 2D houses on top of little 2D mountains though! They kick ass! :D

No no, don’t feel bad! Its a fair critique and you’re totally right! I just feel I failed on that one pose is all. I’m not sure if I’ll go back and try to improve it or not at this stage but its something I will keep in mind to improve upon in the future for sure!
To me, its not so much the pose but the facial expression, which you normally do so well. Fyre’s expression in my opinion looks more worried then an angry furious Fyre, in addition to the pose I had initially thought she was bending down to pick up her poor acid-stricken marine. Then the last panel confused me.
To be honest? I think you overworked it. Instead of trying for a complex pose, revisit one of your old panels. Have fyre go into omgbeserkshadowform as she did when Vas did dailys without her would have been outright hilarious, and a good way to revisit a running gag.

I always wondered that. They now have a marine and a zergling as well as Tyrial and the Diablo pets. Does that mean those 4 pets will go into war with each other?
Actually, the distance is irrelevant. Whichever pet was summoned first will make the killing blow.
Really? I’m not so sure thats true…Vas and I were in a heroic the other day and I saw that his zergling was out, so I summoned murky. I ended up with the killing blow a few minutes later…
Hm, probably his zergling had a lag. :)

Great comic as always. However I wonder why Vas didn’t Bubble. Did he have Forbearance on him? Or just plain forgot?
When you have an Angry Fyreuni bearing down on you, your first reaction is to crap your pants, then think “Oh god” then be mauled then remember to bubble.

The last time Vas bubbled, he died anyway. Maybe he saw the futility in it…

I love your comics so far, very nice job. I noticed you mentioning that the jumping panel looks weak – while you improved the jump itself, I think the part of the panel making it weak may just be Fyreuni’s facial expression. Her hair is obscuring her eyebrows, which diminishes the “angry” look you attempted to give her. Therefore, it looks like she’s attacking him with a sort of constipated look on her face. Vas’ facial expression fits the panel perfectly, and the jump no longer looks like a sort of crouch, so I believe her facial expression is the only think making it look out of place. Just my two cents.
Hello there for the first time! Lovet the strips so far. And so far is as far as it goes at the moment, heh. The baby burloc gets a +38 cuteness buff, specially in the upper third panel.
Also, I have (as many others before me) the “issue” with panel five. Although the pose was not perfect, I felt it necessary to insist that the weirdest part of it was the face. It does not look “mad” enough… I don’t think it’s necessary to explain why, since some other guy around here made a proper comparison. Also, again like somebody else said, she seems to be looking more or less towards US, the readers, wich is frightening as far as we know how dangerous she can be, but can be somewhat confusing since we were sure it was Vas the one about to get his butt turned into [Slimy Ichor]. Well, I guess what’s done is done, and it’s still a great piece of comedy!

As a comic book reader and amateur artist, I must point out panel 5 again.
While it does look better then the old version, the jumping motion still looks off.
It looks like she’s jumping straight into the air and about to fall flat on her face right in front of him.
I don’t really know how you can fix this without resizing the whole image though (mainly the space between them)
That said, I love your artwork and have taken the time to read all of your comments to make sure I wasn’t pointing out something you already knew.
Good luck on your road to becoming a better artist (because bastards like me will always find something to complain about.)
