Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends! Hope you all are properly stuffed! Unfortunately this weeks comic isn’t Pilgrims Day Themed. I’m still in Florida, this is my last full day here. Had to finish this comic before I left a week ago! Also, special thanks to Toranoe from Illidan who gave us the idea for this weeks comic! Drew and I have lots of ideas, but we’re more than open to any comic suggestions anyone would like to share! Send us an email! doingdailies at gmail dot com!
As we all know by now WoW turned 5 this week, and Blizzard 15. A great milestone. The first time I played a blizzard game it was one of the early warcraft ones, but I don’t remember which. A friend of mine had it and loved it. Made me play it a couple times, but I was always more interested in building my town than actually fighting. But I do clearly remember playing WoW. I was into FFXI at the time, and fully addicted to it, when my (then) husband told me about an open beta for WoW, and said I should give it a shot. I was a healer in FFXI and if any of you have tried it, you know that (back then) you can’t do anything on your own in that game. I tried an alliance rogue in the open beta, and after slaughtering wolves, kobolds, and defias, I was hooked, if not just on the ability to kill ANYTHING by myself! It was so unheard of for me.
I started on Aggramar and in the Wetlands met up with a group of 4 other adventurers (I only remember two of thier names now, Jillycorn, the gnome mage, Gobblechops the Dwarf Warrior. We had a paladin and another rogue, so we actually had a good 5 man group as well) We adventured together, doing dungeons, and exploring new areas. It was great. Even then I was obsessed with mounts, and I was the second or third person on the alliance side to get an epic mount. I still have the original epic mount on that character too!

I can’t even delete her…I love the original palominos. I wish there were a way for me to have it on my character now. I never liked the Epic Horse redesigns. They got a bit of a tweak since they were first released, but it always felt to me like they were wearing workout socks from like the 80s or something! I have a picture I drew way back then showing my disgust at it, I’ll dig it out when I get home!
Obviously lots has changed since when I first started, in how I enjoy the game, and how the game has evolved. Its all pretty good, and its still a lot of fun. I hope everyone has as much fun playing it as I do, and I hope we all enjoy it for many years to come! Anyone want to share thier first noob achievements when you first stepped into the world of azeroth? What did you accomplish that you thought was amazing back then (and is like meh now)?

“WoW turned 5 this week, and Blizzard 15.” Do you mean Warcraft, as Blizzard has been around since 1991 (but under the name of Silicon & Synapse). They did rename themselves the same year as Warcraft was released, but I’m pretty certain it wasn’t the same week.
And in reply to your questions at the end, I remember realising you could look up by clicking and dragging. On my first character I danced on one of the buildings in Razor Hill and was disappointed that no one would be able to see me.
Pssh! Same Thing! : P I iknow I know not really, but its stuff like this why I have Drew around. He remembers things like that, I just draw things! ~_^
Hah – there was one day when Lus did dailies without me and I did pretty much what you did in the comic.
/un-lurks
My first noob achievement… only going to the trainer at level 2. After that I just… didn’t realise you got new spells! Luckily I only got to level 6 before my friend realised and showed me =S
I remember getting a 5 man together for a group quest in Loch Modan. I hadn’t seen many people before then, and we just had a great time together and just kept questing after that! But now it’s always ‘Oh, just a group quest *solos it*’
I love this comic ^^ I bet you’re going to get heaps of people who say ‘hey, I did that too!!’ I know I did!
/hides
Its true that back then people were way more interested in partying together for group quests! I know I’m guilty of it now. I don’t like doing it with people I don’t know, I’m kind of shy that way, but back then I’d group with anyone because it was the norm!
Hahahahahaha! I LOVE this one. I don’t usually laugh when I read comics, I just smile, but this one made me laugh a lot! Well done.
My first achievement was not being a melee hunter… Shut up! I know I wasn’t the only one.
Lol.. Risqtish… I was similar. I knew I could get them, but was too lazy to buy new skills until I got into RFC (I’m 100% Horde loyal, so it worked out that I didn’t have to storm Org to train my Allies ;) ).
I’m a dwarf hunter, and always will be. I think the thing that I accomplished that could very well still be considered rather epic was when questing in Winterspring at level 56 I managed to down all the level 60 elite giants needed for that one quest that you have to get the ice shards for solo, with a Wind Serpent pet, using a level 46 gun. My second favorite would have to be not once using any type of ranged weapon other than a gun well into level 70 (the cap at the time) until I managed to get that bow that dropped off of Prince in Karazhan. (it was just such a HUGE upgrade at the time…I honestly couldn’t refuse it.)
“…if any of you have tried it, you know that (back then) you can’t do anything on your own in that game. ”
Don’t fool yourself. I just quit this passed spring after playing since launch. Even when I quit, you couldn’t do a damn thing yourself. And the game’s gotten worse since I’ve left.
Well, I went back to it for a bit about a year ago, and was mildly surprised at the things you could do by yourself. It improved a bit, but not enough to keep my hooked (obviously!) I did manage to get a WHM to 75 that time though!
Great comic. I’ve felt that way before back when I was still doing dailies with friends.
The most epic “achievement” I got back in vanilla is when I was still playing my rogue and I saved up and bought a Krol Blade and got a Crusader enchant on it. I still have it lying in that character’s bank somewhere. I spent about 2 weeks fishing deviate fish and making deviate delights and selling them to fund my little project because back then a stack of deviate delights sold for a ton and I actually made more gold that way than grinding.
Haha. This is exactly how my wife reacts sometimes. I’ve learned to never do dailies — at least the ones she likes — on my own now.
Lol! Shes trained you well then >: )
Hell hath NO fury.
First comment here, but been reading since your first. Gotta say, I like your art style and the content is great =)
re: noob acheivment… hmmm…. I gotta say, it’s when I was able to SOLO deadmines on my first toon, a mage. like level 40 ish, but it felt sooo good to lay the smack down on all those goblins and pirates that had given me so much grief at low levels. Take THAT Mr. Smite!
Love your comics!
The female characters are magnificent and yummy. ;)
