Alright, sorry for the late comic, hopefully it won’t happen again for a while, since I FINALLY sat down and did the Vas redesign.
I remember when Cataclysm came out, for the longest time I had as the GMOTD “CRITTERS!!! KILL THEM!!!” And for a while, everyone did. I even found out about the bug where if you were in a group with guildmates it would count every critter you killed as a kill from every member in your group, so if we were in a full gruild 5 man, every time someone killed a critter in that group, it counted as 5 instead of 1. I will I took more advantage of that before they fixed it : ( We’re at about 30K critters killed, which isn’t bad, considering we’re not on very much outside of raiding times in our guild…
Anyway! Got lots to do today, so I’d better get started!
Ha. I found this nice cave in the Eastern Plaguelands that was full of roaches and scorpians. I just ran up and down, spamming Blood Boil.
Yeah, made a few trips out there myself, a couple times when the bug was in, so I got us a couple thousand, but its boring. Also its fun to run through when lowbie alliance are there and they think you’re there to kill them and they’re all like “OH SHI-”
as a pet collector in the game (to a smaller extent mounts) I find myself killing every critter i come across. Now to get my guild reputation up so i can actually buy the pet.
unlike fyre i don’t grind rep terribly much, which is why i love the rep tabards.
We spent a couple of hours with 13 people in a raid group running through that cave and AoEing the bejeezus out of all the critters in there. It was ridiculous how fast we got to 50k.
we got ours done not long after cata hit, when activity was still high. at one point we had a raid group of 8 people. also, Alliance have a slight advantage – the deep-run Tram has instant respawn on rats… unless they fixed that too.
My roleplay guild ended up getting the critter achievement in Zul’gurub. The room by the snake boss is full of em and our warlock ran around and hellfired herself to death a few times before a shammy stepped in and healed her.

I’ve been killing the poor penguins in Northrend. The poor things just stand around groups waiting for storm come through and wipe em all out. =(

I wish all the snakes on the floor for the Gundrak snake boss were considered critters..
You and me both, I’ve been slaughtering the penguins as well. Big circle. Start near… that big tower place with Nexus, Oculus. Travel along the ice bergs killing all the penguins as I go. Once I reach the end of the icebergs near Dragonblight I cut across the land back to the start point.
The place that Anteas recommended (above) is also a very good place to go. Went there last night and rounded up a few hundred kills in about 15 minutes.
For once it’s Vas embarassed because of Fyre. I think she has some hidden anger issues…
We got it pretty fast after I got the hint about the snakes in Zul Gurub, where Venoxxis used to be. There are lots and the respawn much quicker than the critters in that tunnel.
But killing critters gets very compulsive. After we had the first archivment and the pet, I still frantically killed every critter I saw. Took a while to relax about it. But the twiching’s still there.
Heh, I know what you mean. My Horde main’s guild got Critter Kill Squad a while back, but some small part of my brain still hasn’t quite learned that. :-)
This was how I got the acheivment completed for my guild a few months ago… we where at 20K so I took my mage out there and spammed arcane explosion for a couple hours…. thinking of going back before 4.1 and getting the 100k acheivment

I remember 4 hours of constant killing in the Deeprun Tram with my guildies to finish off the achievement. Instant spawning rats FTW! (Great comic this week!)
lol, you guys went nuts with that too eh? Lol, my guild actually got the critter kill squad achiev pretty quickly, within a month or so of cata being released, we’ve since gotten the next achiev, killing 100k critter, though sadly no pet reward for that one.
Even now it’s hard to get out of the habit of killing ever critter I see.
Sooo many hours in the trams hunting those things down

Awesome! Good luck on your critter-killing! Have you tried the plateau between Mulgore and Stonetalon? The critters up there are armed — really, there’s axe-weilding bunny rabbits and chipmunks wearing army helmets. Anyway, if anyone feels bad about killing critters, they probably won’t so much when the critters themselves can (theoretically) stab you to death.
AWWW did they fix that? i was planing a giant critter raid at the top left of mulgore, where all the critters have guns and axes :(
I just wanna stick in that in old zul’gurub at old snake boss its instant respawn timer on the critter snakes there that covers the room, a couple of my guildies went there and got some thousand kills :D
one thing thou… theres a small chance when you kill them there will come a troll guy who oneshot you :P

You always find ways to amaze me. You made a snake look cute! I’m terrified of the things; some of the game model ones (especially in Vash’jir) are way to realistic for me and make me uneasy.
There’s actually a neverending critter spawn point in the Cape of Stranglethorn – I’m not sure if Horde can do it, but you get teleported in from the quest chain that the troll girl hiding behind a bunch of boxes up north gives you. Lots of snakes that respawn ridiculously quickly – I got a few hundred kills on my 35 hunter before I got bored.
My guild just got the achievement 2 days ago. I went to the cave in the plaguelands and my friend went to kill the penguins. Oddly enough.. no bunnies were killed <3
I would also like to mention that we were threatened with gkicks if we didn’t kill any and all critters we saw in dungeons.

Just a brisk walk through Orgrimmar can now earn you dozens of critter kills. It also offers ample opportunities to manipulate the local economy by stealing rice from one neighborhood and giving it to another.
And let’s not forget goblin-punting…
Our Guild got “Crittergeddon” last month (2/13/11).
It’s sadly easier for Alliance right now. All they need to do is have a couple guildies roll some Worgen, invite the worgen to the guild, and when the quests have you run down the tunnel with the aggressive rats (it’s a quest around level 13, you get a torch to scare the rats away), just start spam killing them instead. If you’ve got an AoE like thunderclap, and a healer hanging on the wing, it’s easy to get 10k+ per hour.
I spent hours for that critter achievement. HOURS. At some point my guildies took sympathy and helped me out, making the count go faster. We did get it but then I didn’t have the rep to buy the pet. SADNESS! xD Some dailies later and I got it. No regrets! Totally worth having this cute Armadillo!

He’s killed 29k critters. In a month. For our bank guild.
My guild got the achievement before the bug was removed. We got into a group and killed off the mass of respawning penguins.
And like Serrinatta pointed out — lots did the rat kills as Worgens!
The pet is pretty cute but I am SAD it doesn’t make lil armadillo noises!
